Never Give a Sucker an Even Break
Released - October, 1941
Directed By - Edward F. Cline
Starring – W. C. Fields (The Great Man, W. C. Fields/Uncle Bill), Gloria Jean (His Niece), Leon Errol (His Rival).
Description - A real treat for fans of W. C. Fields. Our hero is trying to sell an outrageous script to Esoteric Studios, but as we all know, nothing goes as planned for Fields. Enjoy the bizarre and hilarious comedy that follows including his getting insulted by little boys, abused by a waitress, and beaten up for ogling a woman.
You know things are tough when you fly to Mexico to sell wooden nutmegs in a Russian colony, and your main rival is already there doing the same thing. Following this, Fields decides to pursue the wealthy Mrs. Hemogloben, and guess what – once again his rival has beaten him to it.
Classic comedy, and part musical as well. Gloria Jean turns out to not only be quite funny, but also a darn good singer.
NOTABLE: This motion picture was the last starring role for W. C. Fields as his health was beginning to decline.
In one scene a vehicle crashes into a drug store. This was not part of the script and actually did happen during filming.
Included in W.C. Fields Comedy Collection Vol. 2
